The Holy Week performances in Delia are based on the 18th-century tragedy. Il Riscatto d'Adamo ("The Redemption of Adam") by Filippo Orioles (1687-1793) with added parts by a local poet, Calogero Ferrara (1810-1880). The drama is divided into several parts: the last meeting between Mary and Jesus (Spartenza; literally "departure); the Trial, the Sentencing, the Crucifixion and Deposition (Scinnenza; literally "Deposition"). The most moving moment is the enactment of the Via Crucis which takes place from the central square of Delia to the Church of the Calvary; the spectators are directly involved; the emotions are running high; the silence is deep as if the characters were real and so was also Christ and His sufferings.
