| A simboleggiare una devozione senza limiti, a Enna, lo sfarzo non è mai abbastanza, infatti la "vara" dell'Addolorata viene coperta di ori, ma la cosa si può notare nei paramenti sacri degli officianti. Ma la caratteristica di questa processione sono gli incappucciati. Eredi di una tradizione, che un tempoera molto diffusa in Sicilia, sono divisi in dieci confraternite appartenenti ognuna ad una parrocchia ed hanno colori diversi. Caratteristico è il cappuccio che viene indossato durante la processione. Ogni confraternita ha anche un compito da espletare durante la processione. Una, contraddistinta dal pettorale nero, porta la "vara" dell'Addolorata, un'altra l'Urna. Una delle confraternite è carica di simbologia, infatti i confrati portano, su vassoi d'argento, i simboli della passione di Cristo, come i chiodi o la corona e addirittura un gallo vivo e vegeto. Gli incappucciati procedono su due file e percorrono le vie cittadine fino a notte inoltrata.
